Welcome to the department of Social Work at Asian University of Bangladesh. The department of Social Work, AUB is the oldest and richest department in the field of Social Science in Bangladesh under private University. The curriculum of this department was designed in accordance with famous university of the country and around the world. Social Work is an internationally recognized profession and it is a profession of many faces. Students of this department receive both theoretical and practical knowledge and get exciting opportunity to work in renowned national and international government and non-government organization.
Social work is a practice of oriented profession. The purpose of the social work profession is to promote human well-being guided by a person in environment framework a global perspective and respect for human diversity. Professional social workers scientifically help different disadvantaged group such as the children, the women, the aged, the disabled and handicapped, the poor and varieties of new social problems as the consequences of rapid industrialization and globalization. New social problems such as drug addiction, criminal activities, human rights violation, women oppression, mental problems, child abuse and ageism are emerging as the society becomes more digitalized needs and problems; scope of professional social work has increased day by day in modern global society. Social work profession has developed different specialized practice field according to the various needs and problems of the different groups such as geriatric social work, psychiatric social work, medical social work, school social work, community social work, industrial social work etc.
The Department of Social Work of Asian University of Bangladesh has started its journey since the inception of the university with BSS (Hon’s) and MSS in Social Work program is to produce skilled social work graduates so that they can serve in different GO and NGO social service agency. This is one year program and includes theoretical and practical course and field visit and field practicum. The details curriculum of the program has been presented following pages.
