Research Focus:
Gender Discrimination in Upper Class Urban Society
Abstract
This research presents a critical analysis of gender discrimination specifically focusing on upper-class women in Dhaka City. While gender issues are often discussed in the context of poverty and the working class, this study explores the subtle and overt forms of discrimination that exist within the affluent layers of society. The study investigates how patriarchal norms, cultural expectations, and social structures influence the lives of women who possess high economic and social status. Through qualitative and empirical observation, the research identifies that despite financial independence and higher education, upper-class women often encounter discrimination in decision-making processes, professional growth, and personal autonomy. The findings suggest that economic empowerment alone is not sufficient to eliminate gender-based disparities, as deeply rooted traditional values continue to shape interpersonal relationships and social perceptions in urban Bangladesh. The paper advocates for a more comprehensive understanding of gender dynamics that transcends class boundaries to foster true equality in contemporary Dhaka.
