Abstract
The quality of higher education significantly depends on the competence and personal attributes of teachers. This research paper explores the desired attributes of university teachers that contribute to effective learning, specifically within the context of private universities in Bangladesh. As the private higher education sector expands rapidly, understanding the expectations of students and the institutional requirements for quality instruction becomes crucial. The study identifies key professional and personal traits, such as profound subject knowledge, effective communication skills, empathy, and the ability to inspire critical thinking. Through a retrospective analysis of classroom experiences and feedback from stakeholders, the author evaluates how these attributes influence student engagement and academic performance. The research also addresses the challenges faced by teachers in private universities, including administrative pressures and the need for continuous professional development. By highlighting the gap between current teaching practices and desired pedagogical standards, the paper provides recommendations for university authorities to improve recruitment processes and faculty training programs. The study concludes that for effective learning to take place, teachers must not only be subject matter experts but also facilitators who possess strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to lifelong learning. This work serves as a valuable guide for educators and policymakers aiming to enhance the standard of higher education in Bangladesh.
