Socio-Economic Impacts of Mobile Penetration in SAARC Countries with Special Emphasis on Bangladesh
Abstract
Throughout the last decade, the world has observed surprising growth in mobile subscribers across the South Asian region, bringing significant changes to the socio-economic environment of SAARC countries, particularly Bangladesh. This study examines how the expansion of the mobile telecom industry has shaped social behavior and developed vital infrastructure. Currently, mobile phones serve as multifunctional devices for health, education, agriculture, mobile money for unbanked populations, and disaster response. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the research analyzes data from primary sources (100 urban and rural individuals) and secondary sources (ITU, BTRC, BBS, UNDP). The study highlights how mobile penetration is uplifting living standards by creating employment opportunities and providing essential citizen services. By investigating the resulting socio-economic shifts, this study aims to provide outcomes that can be utilized for regional advancement and lifestyle improvement through technology.
