Abstract

Women empowerment is, by and large, related to women’s ability to make decisions, easy access to information and control over resources. Online women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh is still in its early phases. The present study tries to understand how online entrepreneurship influences empowerment of women. Besides a source of income, online entrepreneurship, no doubt, became a source of positive changes for women. Decision making capability in personal, familial and business related issues has increased significantly. Their financial independence and stability has also been achieved through it. Physical and mental tortures have significantly come down which resulted in more safe and sound family environment. This study adopts a quantitative research approach where 104 respondents were interviewed as a part of social survey method with semi-structured questionnaire. This study may help policymakers to understand the real scenario of women online entrepreneurship and women empowerment with the help of which they might be able to formulate strategies to overcome the challenges related to it. Looking at the push and pull factors, women can dream big to become online entrepreneurs. On the other hand, those who are already in the business procedures can find new ideas to empower themselves. The collaboration of government and other institutional support would be very fruitful for them to overcome problems that hinder their progress.
