Abstract
Without the establishment of proper libraries in the educational institutions and in the communities as a whole for ensuring quality education and creating good citizens, no nation can achieve sustainable development. Keeping this view in mind, the researchers have started the research project.
The purpose of the study is to explore the existing status and student satisfaction with library information services of 40 schools and college libraries in the northern part of Dhaka. The study has been conducted based on primary sources. Data collection is done through structured questionnaires and face-to-face interviews. The size of the population was 150. Secondary data have also been used in some cases in limited forms.
According to the analysis of the collected data, the researchers found that the infrastructure, reading environment, library collection, and trained manpower, etc., of the libraries are not satisfactory. So most of the libraries could not fulfill the desired satisfaction of the students. Based on the analysis in the recommendations, every school and college library should provide proper space conducive to reading, qualified librarians, an up-to-date collection of reference books, journals, magazines, and newspapers, computers with high-speed internet connections, and library literacy programs and conduct different activities and programs for increasing the reading habits of the students.
