Abstract

This research paper explores the evolving nature of interpersonal relationships in the 21st century, specifically focusing on the commodification of modernity in the context of love and romantic engagement. The study analyzes how contemporary social structures, driven by global capitalism and technological advancement, have transformed human emotions into exchangeable products. In a society where consumerist values predominate, "modernity" is often used as a tool to evaluate social status within relationships, leading to a shift from emotional depth to material and superficial expectations. The authors examine these changing trends through a sociological lens, highlighting how the concept of love is being reshaped by media, peer pressure, and the digital age. By investigating the influence of commodification, the paper reveals the challenges of maintaining authentic social ties in an era where interpersonal connections are increasingly influenced by market-driven ideologies. The findings suggest a critical need for re-evaluating our understanding of modernity and its impact on the fundamental social unit of human connection in the 21st century.
