On behalf of the department of Sociology & Anthropology, I would like to welcome you to our departmental web page. This department started since 2007 with a view to achieving of Asian University goals with the compatibility of society and country’s demands. The department of Sociology and Anthropology in Asian University is considered to be a pioneering and leading one of social sciences faculty in the university arena which focuses on a consummate education by training the students beyond the skills needed to perform in the job market as well serves the country and its people with the utmost capability and knowledge. Asian University of Bangladesh has the tremendous policy to merge both of these disciplines Sociology and Anthropology together to avail of the opportunity of both subjects ends which have not been seen in other universities our country. Sociology studies macro approaches of societal aspects whereas Anthropology is busy with the study of micro perspectives of societal phenomena. Socio-anthropological based education seeks to create a socially responsible person, endow the students with the knowledge necessary to go about in the world. It allows one to know ones culture, society and civilization as it enriches the soul and enhance of the arts, history, social sciences, literature and philosophy.
Descriptions of the program
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has been taught at Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB) since 2007. The faculty members of this department are reputed and known at home and abroad for their teaching and research achievements. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The BSS (Hon’s) in Sociology and Anthropology program was started in summer 2007 with the objective of producing Sociology and Anthropological leaders of 21st century in Bangladesh. The aim of this program is to acquaint students with the basic concepts and ideas of Sociology and Anthropology with a view to equipping the learners with sound foundation and knowledge in the said discipline. Besides the major area of concentration, there will be some interdisciplinary courses which will prepare the students to adjust to the reality of the multidimensional issues of the contemporary world.
